BGN – Bulgarian Lev
Sign – Лв / Code – BGN
Long before our corporate currency exchange brokers were helping our clients with their Bulgarian Lev transfers, the Bulgarian Lev was creating its own rich history.
About the Bulgarian Lev
The Lev was introduced in 1881. From 1943 to 1952, only banknotes were issued.
After the fall of Communism, the Bulgarian Lev went through a period of drastic inflation and devaluation. To combat this, the Lev was pegged to the Deutsche Mark and then the Euro.
Although Bulgaria has expressed interest in adopting the Euro, they have yet to do so largely due to the recent financial crises.
