Yesterday saw more jostling in the markets principally, of course, from the continuing situation in Greece. The GBPEUR eased back during the day after posting highs earlier the night before, just peaking over 1.4300 before heading back down again markedly.

Late on Friday night, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras surprised the markets by announcing a referendum on the Greek bailout negotiations. In a speech that was broadcast live on Greek television, he announced that the referendum would be held on July 5th.

The markets continue to move and we are still seeing Sterling profiting from the uncertainty around other currencies. After a couple of days of US Dollar profit-taking and the Dollar being used as a safe haven, we have seen Cable (GBPUSD) start to rise a bit again.

So, it looks like we may be arriving at some sort of conclusion with the Greek and Eurogroup talks. Markets swung wildly on the back of rumours yesterday and at the end of the day we saw Sterling start climbing.

All eyes are on Greece as talks yesterday failed to reach any sort of breakthrough at a Eurogroup meeting. We have until the 30th June for there to be a compromise and as time runs out yet again we are looking for another 11th hour compromise.

It was another good day for Sterling yesterday as we saw it rise for an 8th consecutive day yesterday and make gains on all of the major currencies with the exception of the Norwegian Kroner.
