About the Jordanian Dinar

It was introduced in 1950 following Jordan’s independence, and it replaced the Palestinian Pound. During Israel’s hyperinflation of the 1970s and 1980s, the Jordanian Dinar helped provide stability. 

Since 1992, the fils and dirham are no longer used in the Arabic denominations, while the English denominations are given in dinar and qirsh/piastre.

The Dinar is also used in the West Bank in Palestine, alongside the Israeli New Shekel.

Subunit: dirham (1/10), qirsh/piastre (1/100), fils (1/1000)

Coins: ½ qirsh, 1 qirsh, 2½ piastres, 5 piastres, 10 piastres, ¼ dinar, ½ dinar, 1 dinar

Banknotes: 1 dinar, 5 dinars, 10 dinars, 20 dinars, 50 dinars
