Long before our corporate currency exchange brokers were helping our clients with their Mauritian Rupee transfers, the Mauritian Rupee was creating its own rich history.
About the Mauritian Rupee
The Rupee was established by law in 1876 as the currency of Mauritius due to the massive influx of Indian immigrants to Mauritius.
A year later, the Mauritian Rupee was adopted as their main form of currency, replacing the Indian Rupee, Pound and Dollar.
In 1971, a new series of notes and coins were issued, featuring Queen Elizabeth II on them.
