New Country, New Life, New Fitness Plan

New Country, New Life, New Fitness Plan

Moving and living in a new place can be difficult and put a lot of stress on your body. However, one of the best ways to ease the transition is to sweat it all out. Thy gym or sports club is not just a great way for you to release those endorphins but can be an excellent spot to meet some new people. Whether your an expat in the United States or you have moved to Aussieland there are plenty of resources to get you exercising.

Moving to the United States

In the United States, there are plenty of public parks and recreation areas to take a light jog around the lake or to play in the grass, where locals will kick the ball around or throw the football, again you are in America, and can use your hands for certain “footballs.” One of the more popular and upcoming workouts to test your fitness is boxing. Clubs have been appearing and blowing up all over university campuses, getting students to leave the library and release their energy. However, boxing is for all ages and all people, and boxing is a fantastic tool and mechanism for improving your overall body composition. Most people have the idea of “weight loss” when they work out, but the best thing is to improve muscle mass while reducing fat mass. Throwing some punches in a gym or with a trainer perfectly fuses the building of muscle with the burning of calories via cardio.

But, if you are looking to get into the gym instead of outside and put on some muscle or you just prefer to run on the treadmill then joining a gym is definitely the right move to make. There are tons of gym chains that each offer something slightly different. If you are looking to put on that muscle and focus on strength training and body sculpting then look into Gold’s Gym. Passing over the free weights and protein powder, if you’re looking to work out your heart and sweat with some great cardio machines then 24HourFitness may be the prime gym.

Moving to Australia

In Aussieland, you must take advantage of the beautiful outdoor life. Go ahead and throw your bathing suit in your suitcase because what’s better than sandy beaches. Look into kayaking and surfing. Kayaking is a great source of endurance and upper body strength and nothing is better than riding that wave both in the water and in life. The Australian national sport is Aussie Rules Football.  In some form or another Aussie Rules has been played since about 1841. The object of the game is to kick the football between a series of 4 goal posts. The set of posts that the football travels through, determines the number of points scored and awarded to the team who kicked it. The ball can be passed around and the only way you can pass the ball is to handball. For this to happen the ball must be placed in the palm of the hand and then the ball struck with the butt of the other hand clenched into a fist. The winning team will be the team with the highest number of points at the end of the game, which consists of four, twenty minute quarters.

One of the best sites to research the sports clubs that will surround you is Good Sports. Other than the water you will find your familiar sports on the pitch, the gridiron, cricket, and rugby. There are also many running clubs that will allow you to meet new people and explore the country with their club runs. Yet, there are always days where the weather can be a bit shaky, and if that is the case and you are looking to train indoors then Anytime Fitness should fulfil all your general gym needs also offering several classes and the option to work with a personal trainer.

With a fresh start, in a new country, why not make the most out of it and do a little more research to tailor a plan for you and your likings. Exercise not only pumps up your endorphins but can act as a source of meditation. The more you are moving and competing you forget about those tensions that have been resting on your shoulders and in your head all day, it’s a great way to escape and forget that you are in a new place. Find what you love and stick with it, you will find yourself meeting new people, exploring new places, and living that new lifestyle faster than you thought was possible.
