About the New Zealand Dollar
The New Zealand Dollar was introduced in 1967, replacing the New Zealand Pound, and has led a colourful life.
In 1985, the NZ$ was floated for US$0.44, and since then the dollar’s value has been determined by the financial markets. In 2007, the Reserve Bank sold an unknown amount of New Zealand Dollars in order to reduce its value.
The New Zealand Dollar is the 10th most traded currency in the FX market and is also used in the Cook Islands, Pitcairn Islands, Ross Dependency, Tokelau and Niue.
The NZ$ symbol is often used to help differentiate the New Zealand Dollar from the US Dollar.
