Long before our corporate currency exchange brokers were helping our clients with their Canadian Dollar transfers, the Canadian Dollar was creating its own rich history.
About Canadian Dollars
Although currency was first brought to Canada in the 1660s by French colonists, the Canadian Pound was introduced in 1841 during its days as a British colony. However, this was soon changed to the Canadian Dollar in 1858.
Nevertheless, Canada continued to accept US dollars and British gold sovereigns. The Bank of Canada was established in 1934 and began issuing banknotes a year later.
The Canadian Dollar is now the seventh most traded currency in the FX market and the C$ symbol is often used to help differentiate the Canadian Dollar from the US dollar.
